It Isn’t Just the Movies

Female playwrights, too , have trouble getting their work produced.

A group of female playwrights met yesterday in New York to talk about reasons why the NY market is so difficult, when other areas produce more of their plays.

Some blame the lack on mostly-male artistic directors’ inability to connect with plays written by women, while others suggest characters written by women tend to be unlikable.

Here’s a chart, from the New York Times article linked above, that lists the top five Off-Broadway theatres and the number of produced plays written by men versus women:
